Education Proposal

  1. Seek approval from the Department for Education to achieve academy status with Wonder Learning Partnership.
  2. Appoint a new headteacher with a long-term commitment to the Whitby area. His/her performance targets should be set around improving examination results and attendance figures as well as reducing exclusions.
  3. Enlist help from the local community to require the North Yorkshire Council (NYC) to sell their ‘mothballed’ properties in the local area and use the capital receipts from them to build a substantial classroom block of fourteen spaces to accommodate all secondary-aged students on the Airy Hill site.
  4. Liaise with local trusts responsible for primary education to pool human and material resources for SEND across the area.
  5. In collaboration with the Mayor of the Combined Authority, require the NYC to sell the Prospect Hill site and use the capital receipt from this to develop a skills centre on the Airy Hill site which will accommodate students wishing to pursue post 16 vocational courses.
