Health and Well-Being Proposal

General

  • Public transport : direct into all hospitals, clinics, Care and Support Hubs and homes used by Whitby people needed or local community transport
  • Improved communication across all NHS services particularly as main hospital outside ICB area required
  • Action Sir Chris Whitty’s report “Chief Medical Officer’s Annual Report 2021 Health in Coastal Communities.” & NYC Director of Public Health Annual report 2023-2024.
  • Continuity of care particularly for the elderly required with better facilities in Whitby, including extra care housing, housing for the elderly and step up/step down facilities
  • Improved Active Travel & Green Spaces in Whitby for improved well-being.
  • Late night pharmacist required, one open to 8.00pm only.
  • Better dental support in the area required either via the hospital or NHS/private dentists.
  • Improved ambulance service required with action of analysis of ambulance services for this remote area, are targets and expectations  being achieved.
  • Improved GP services sufficient to meet the needs of an ageing population required.

Whitby Hospital

Improved Hospital Services required including:

  • Increased visiting Consultants : room utilisation can be improved to reduce need to travel long distances.
  • Improved Bed Utilisation on the Ward by Whitby residents needed.
  • Telemedicine suite required with the assistance of a nurse is being suggested for video consultations.
  • Digital Inclusivity is still required.
  • Ophthalmology service, given the ageing population and significant amount of ophthalmological issues associated with age.
  • Phlebotomy service.
  • Mental health services.
  • Out of hours based at Whitby – service currently provided by Nimbuscare, based at Scarborough Hospital 18.00 – 23.00, then via 111 service  between 23.00 – 8.00am.
  • Access via staff entrance needed to avoid having to walk up lots of steps. Intercom could be installed for those with mobility issues.
  • Stroke rehabilitation services.
  • Cancer day centre, possibly at the hospital.
  • Wellness clinics.
  • Full radiography service required. X-ray facilities only available from 09.00 to 16.30 Monday to Friday, 09.00 to 12.00 on Saturdays.
  • Increased Physio space required to prevent excessive waits for treatments.
  • Visitors contributions to hospital funding – currently they are treated to the detriment of residents?
  • Improved working & communications across NHS groups within the hospital required.
