A town / parish meeting / assembly can legally be held (see Local Govt Act 1972) whenever either the town mayor, or 2 town / parish councillors or 6 electors of the parish call for such a meeting. The meeting is called to discuss matters of interest to residents.
18th September 2023
A town meeting was called for 18th September by 2 councillors, and the minutes were handed to Whitby Town Council in October for putting on their website to provide visibility. As of 21st December the minutes are still not present on their website.

19th December 2023
A town meeting was called for 19th December by the order of 20 residents. Whitby Town Council declared the meeting invalid just 24 hours before the meeting. The meeting was held regardless since there were important matters to discuss.

8th January 2024
A town meeting was called for 8th January by the order of 20 residents. Whitby Town Council declared the meeting invalid on 2nd Jan. The meeting was held regardless since there were important matters to discuss.
